GMKtec EVO-X2 Powered By Ryzen AI Max+ 395 To Launch For $2,052: The First AI+ Mini PC With 70B LLM Support

Apr 10, 2025

The EVO-X2 will be the first AI Mini PC with 70B LLM support to perform operations locally and will be significantly faster than RTX 4090 in AI performance.

The AI PC boom has compelled many PC hardware makers to produce dedicated AI PCs and GMKtech has come up with its own mini AI PC that it calls the first one with 70B LLM support. The 70B LLM (Large Language Model) model is trained using 70 billion parameters and can perform various AI operations such as text generation and question-answering.

The EVO-X2 mini AI+ PC is powered by AMD's strongest Strix Halo chip, Ryzen AI Max+ 395, which offers 16 cores and 32 threads based on the Zen 5 architecture. The processor also offers powerful Radeon 8060S integrated graphics for carrying out intensive graphical tasks, but its dedicated NPU can outperform even high-end graphics cards in AI operations.

For instance, the EVO-X2 can offer up to 2.2x the performance in LM Studio compared to RTX 4090. The LM Studio is a vast open-source library that helps users deploy LLMs on devices and supports various operating systems like Mac, Linux, and Windows. The GMKtec EVO-X2 offers Windows 11 out-of-the-box similar to other GMKtec machines. GMKtec has been producing mini PCs for a while and has very recently started offering powerful solutions such as EVO-X1 that leverages the power of Ryzen AI 9 HX 370.

The EVO-X2 takes performance to the next level by increasing the core/thread count by 4/8 and significantly adding more prowess to the iGPU by transitioning from the Radeon 890M to the Radeon 8060S with 40 Compute Units based on an RDNA 3.5 architecture. This is why the EVO-X2 is significantly more expensive and, as per the report, will cost 14,999 Yuan or US$2,052. Compared to the EVO-X1 AI Mini PC, the EVO-X2 costs more than twice the MSRP of the EVO-X1.

Not much has been revealed regarding the specifications, but it will be equipped with 8533 MT/s LPDDR5X memory with probably 32 GB or higher RAM capacity. For storage, there will be dual M.2 2280 PCI-E Gen 4.0 slots for M.2 SSDs. Connectivity includes fast USB Type-A ports, a USB4 Type-C port for peripherals, and an SD card reader as well. There will be HDMI 2.1, DP 2.0 for display output, and an audio jack for headset.

The GMKtec EVO-X2 is going to be available starting 15th April from the official website.
